Description

As a spruce top Carillo player myself, I already love the bright and colourful sound they produce, although the Primera Especial is in a league of its own where sound is concerned. She surpasses her cousins in brightness, but retains her gravity, instead there is an incredible energy in her sound.

Tarrega's Rosita, in essence already an exciting piece, is given the dynamism it needs; each note 'bounds' and the Primera Especial gives the music drive and direction.

The bass sounds and feels incredibly deep, but still maintains the signature brightness. The result of this is a more purposeful sound, which makes playing melodic bass lines so much more interesting and more importantly - musical. The directness of the sound makes it so much easier to bring out subtleties in the music.

Because the Primera Especial's tone is so crisp and crystal clear, every note is brought out with excellent clarity, which makes for a wonderful mid-range tone. It also means that playing harmonics is incredibly rewarding, as the bright tone helps them to cut through and sustain. There is a lovely evenness of tone over the trebles.

As far as aesthetics go, she is set aside from others by her beautiful Madagascan Rosewood back and sides, which have a reddish, almost purple hue. This is set off by her light blonde neck, and black marbled tuning pegs. She is a stunner!

Overall, the Primera Especial has a unique personality that can only be described as energetic! While she responds well to any mood, at her core is a powerful, lively brightness that just keeps on giving.
