Description

On first playing this guitar has the smooth and concentrated sound that I have come to expect and rely on from Alhambra.

By concentrated I mean full, clear and ample notes, easy to produce and giving the player a feeling of real control and confidence that the sound will be there even if you are having a bad day!

The treble has a creamy and rounded character, with a firm and focussed bass voice in support. These characteristics give the guitar plenty of definition and produce an even tone across the guitar, bringing out natural colours in shades of red – the warmth of deep red to the more vivid orangey red. She is also responsive to slurring and fast, detailed articulation.

However the best feature of this guitar is her future!

As I played through my duo programme I could really hear her voice blossoming. The treble starting to glow with full strokes of the right hand fingers and the bass gained in depth and energy. I was able to get the contrasts between sparkling and smooth treble lines in the Sor piece and the definition, richness and energy in the bass lines of La Vide Breve.

I also particularly enjoyed playing through some Villa Lobos, achieving a rich, sonorous bass melody and plenty of detail in the fast articulation in Prelude no.4, as well as lovely tonal control in the falling lines of Prelude no.3.

This guitar gives you a canvas onto which you can build colour and texture through experimenting musically and technically, taking you further on your musical journey.
